A Look at The Master Cleanse Diet

In the 1940s, Stanley Burroughs created a liquid diet to primarily cleanse the body and detoxify the human system. The "lemonade diet", a master cleansing diet, which specifically aims to wash out toxins and waste elements trapped in the internal organs. This cleansing treatment is also an effective method to lose weight.

Before you engage in this form of cleansing diet, check with your doctor first to know if this is suitable for you.

If your doctor gives his consent, start the program for ten days, drinking at least six to twelve glasses a day. During the diet program, you should not take any food or other supplements. There is no limit in your water intake so you can drink as much as you can. To boost better cleansing and improve bowel movement, you can drink herbal tea – which is a laxative – to be taken once before bedtime. While in this diet stage and to induce good and regular bowel movement, take a salt water drink every morning.

The following are the ingredients of this master cleansing diet:

  1. 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice.
  2. 2 tbsp maple syrup.
  3. 2-5 tbsp cayenne pepper.
  4. A cup of water.

The cleansing diet works this way - lemon juice, considered a good cleanser high in vitamin C, helps break up the toxic elements collected in the body. Cayenne pepper, meanwhile, works much like a cleansing agent. Maple syrup, on the other hand, is converted to energy while the laxative herbal tea works up the digestive system to facilitate proper bowel release.

During this cleansing stage, you might experience diarrhea in reaction to laxative tea and the salt water. Loose stools are the body's way of washing down toxins from the body.

Take note of the risks of this diet. For one, this ten-day diet will rob your body of the needed nutrients, making you feel really restless and tired. People with diabetes, cancer, gallstones, anemia, and other forms of sicknesses should not try this diet. The same goes for people who are underweight. This is why it is very important to get the consent of your doctor first.

Once you finish this diet program, do not grab food instantly. Let your system adapt to food intake gradually. On day one, you must drink orange juice only. On the second day, you can take vegetable soup; and on the third day, start eating vegetable salads and fruits. You can then resume normal eating on the fourth day onwards.
